Vagenende, a real gourmet saga !

When it comes to « brasseries with a history» Vagenende springs immediately to mind. This gourmet monument of Parisian life that was one of the famous « bouillons » open by Chartier and where the well-heeled socialites of the Belle Epoque took refuge.

Beveled mirrors, « noodle» wood paneling, velvet curtains: a really impressive decor, classified as historical monument by André Malraux himself, where leading VIPs of today (an incognito Catherine D., well-known fashion editors…) come to seek out a cinema setting that « puts stars in your eyes».

It is so wonderful to indulge in their old fashioned dishes with tasty sauces. Cult quality: the baked pike quenelles with a Nantua sauce (20€). Wild, real céleri rémoulade with crab and black radish (14€) a terrific foie gras (19€), a good bone marrow (12€), real lamb’s leg « à la voiture », meaning they roll it up to your table and slice it in front of you, served with butter beans (19€) of a Châteaubriand steak with béarnaise and home fries (32€).

For dessert : a Proustian madeleine! Brioché French toast and its milky caramel 12€) or a sinful rum baba.

The must ? An incredible seafood platter for ladies on a diet
Market menu at 26€
